Handicrafts & Arts

Through the production of handicrafts, we aim to engage local communities—particularly women and young artists—in income-generating activities while assisting them in accessing wider markets. With support from our tourism program and our partner organization, KWETU ni KWENU (www.kwetu.at), we sell handmade products, and the proceeds directly support our project initiatives.

Our efforts focus on skill enhancement, including business development, creativity, innovative product design, and artistic or craft-based income activities. To further empower these groups, we plan to organize workshops in the near future to enhance their skills and economic opportunities.

Our Key Handicraft Initiatives

TUPANDE OUTFIT

This project supports local tailors by providing them with market access, skill development, promotional assistance, and business advice. Many women in the local tailoring industry face high competition, limited orders, and high operational costs. By introducing new products tailored for tourists and external markets, we aim to help them stabilize and grow their income.

TUPANDE SEEDS & BEADS

This initiative specifically supports young mothers who lack a stable income by engaging them in the production of handmade beadwork and other crafts. Beyond financial empowerment, the project also helps participants develop new creative skills that can contribute to their economic independence.

LOCAL ARTISTS SUPPORT

Artists in Lushoto often struggle with limited market access and visibility. Through our programs, we provide them with a platform to promote and sell their artwork, encouraging them to enhance their creativity and refine their artistic skills.

TRADITIONAL HANDICRAFTS

We actively collaborate with groups that preserve traditional arts and crafts, such as the women’s pottery collective in Malomboi. By adding value to their handmade products—such as ceramics, woven baskets, and other crafts—we support their work while helping to conserve traditional craftsmanship.

Our Mission

At TUPANDE, we foster collaboration and skill-sharing among local artisans and craftspeople. Our goal is to create more market opportunities, encourage artistic innovation, and preserve cultural heritage while enhancing economic sustainability.
